The CIFFTA therapist works with different family members and the entire family unit at each of the treatment phases. We have specialized engagement strategies for engaging family members that are reluctant to enter treatment.
CIFFTA works to reduce conflict and hostility, repair ruptured relationships, and enhance support, validation, and protective factors. Important family relationships and processes such as parenting, communication, and guidance can be disrupted by the unique contextual stressors faced by culturally diverse youth and families (discrimination, racism, immigration and acculturation stressors). Conversely, when families are functioning well and share an understanding of the strengths found in the family history, those family processes can create resilience and buffer the youth from the powerful stressors that surround them.
